Psalm 138:1-2, 2-3, 4-5, 7-8

If your team won tonight, congratulations.
If your team lost, condolences.
If your team wasn't there, bummer.

I always love it when athletes or any of us for that matter pray for God to grant their team victory.  Yes I know it's important to that individual but come on.... God wants someone to win... for the sake of winning.  I don't think so.  If that were the case a lot of us should either be a lot richer, better looking, or healthier, or we should be really torqued off at God.  I don't think God gives a hoot who wins.  Of course this is a personal belief.  I just think that God has his plan and his ways and if one team needs to win to accomplish something then he may do something to make it happen however in general, God allows us to live our lives.  Whatever happens, he's there to strengthen us and help us get through it.  If we loose, then he's there to carry our hearts and help us continue through that adversity.  If we win, then he's there to humble us and make sure that we keep it in perspective.  What's really important is that God's plan is being served.  I think someday I'd like to hear a coach pray something like this.  "God we give you thanks for allowing us to be here in this contest today.  We ask that you keep us and our adversaries safe and that whatever the outcome is, it's the result of our best efforts and furthers your plans for our lives. Amen. "

Games and contests are not wars.  God may very well take sides in war.  As I go to bed tonight I think I'll remember that and pray for our troops who are not involved in a game but are in constant danger.  I'll pray that regardless of why they are there, God makes them an instrument of his will and that America and all free countries accept God and listen to his will as decisions are being made.

God bless and goodnight.
