January 13, 2013, Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

When I think of peace I like to think of a beautiful little creek running through a green meadow.  Pine trees surround the meadow with patches of the evergreens sprouting up now and then and wildflowers are all around.  The stream itself is easy to see as I sit beside the wet rocks and wood creating a small pool where in front of me a large shade tree has grown in just the right place.  It makes sitting with my feet in the cool water an all day treat.  The sound of the wind is rustling through the trees and the birds sing periodically.  Of course my perfect stream is uninterrupted by unwanted pests.  All is well and comfortable.

I don't think a nice afternoon is necessarily the peace the bible speaks about.  I think it's the peace that comes from knowing I've done my best and that I've used the gifts God's given me to my best extent.  It's the peace of knowing that the decisions I've made were made after praying for guidance and accepting the truth and not forcing my opinion on the situation.  It's the peace of knowing God is blessing my decisions and actions because I honor him and listen to his will.  It's the peace of knowing that if God does correct me or if I am in error, it's God's call for me to follow him even more closely.  It's the opportunity to make good decisions and to improve the world around me for the sake of others and to put those I love before my needs, knowing God will see to my requirements as I do his will.

God bless you on your journey this week.
