Psalm; Ps 93:1, 1-2, 5
Are you king of your own home? I am and it feels great! Every time I snap my fingers people jump to attention and get moving. Why when I walk in after a long day hard at work in the kingdom I'm greeted with fanfares and food at the table. A small dog brings me the paper as I set my feet up and kick back in my chair for a nice relaxing evening. My servants revere me and my queen dotes on me constantly! Ah the life of a king!
So now is about the time my head nods just enough to startle me away from my daydream and into reality!
Being a king in this psalm may be cool but it's no vacation. Yes "The Lord is king, in splendor robed" but then you notice that not much else about being a king in this psalm would be considered fun. Being "girt" about with strength doesn't sound like much fun. Especially when you realize that only those who are constantly under attack need great strength. Making the world "firm, not to be moved" sounds like the real heavy lifting kind of work. "Decrees are worthy of trust" errrr... that means I have to make good decisions.... personally, I'm kind of a goofball and make more than my share of mistakes. Of course, I like the "holiness befits your house" part but then that really puts me on the spot because frankly, I'm a sinner and holiness can be a challenge when all kinds of things are around that can lead me astray.
So is being a king "robed in majesty" all that it's cracked up to be? Not for me, but Jesus Christ is a man who was born for the job. He's all this and more. It's my job to try to walk in his ways. That means that before I sit down and call for a cool one... perhaps I should do what the king in psalm 93 does and make my home firm (in the Lord) and myself "worthy of trust". Hmmm.... sounds like I've got some work and some praying to do.
