July 29th, Psalm 145; The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.

July 29th, Psalm 145; The hand of the Lord feeds us, he answers all our needs.

I'm back from Europe and it's been a fun month of travel but it's nice being home again.

This week we sing about the Lords wonderful bounty.  He not only gives us food but can satisfy the desire of every living thing.  Now that causes some real consideration!  The desire of every living thing?  Does that mean that God will satisfy EVERY DESIRE!  Actually yes.  You may think about specific choices in life as a desire however I don't think that's how desire works.  For example a person may indulge in drinking, sexual promiscuity or any number of actions that some would call "desire" but those are just actions in an attempt to satisfy a desire.  The desire to be loved, accepted, fulfilled and or comforted can manifest itself in many ways and often times those ways can have negative effects, even though we perceive a temporary high from the action.  If you've ever seen someone destroy his/her family or marriage for the sake of a promiscuous encounter you can easily see what I'm talking about. The sin of the encounter was in truth an attempt to satisfy a different desire.  It doesn't mean that the spouse who was wronged is somehow the one at fault for not providing satisfaction though.  How we seek to satisfy our desires and longings are our own decisions we make and must live with.  The next time you are tempted to sin, think of what giving in to that temptation will mean in the long run for you and your loved ones.  Then make the decision that shows your loved ones they are first in your life.  Find ways to satisfy your desires through God.  He won't disappoint if you seek him.

God Bless
