Ps 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9 God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
This week I'm going to do something different. I'm going to list a few songs that seem to go with the readings that could be used for mass. Of course it's only opinion and you should check with your priest/minister if you have questions about something being appropriate. Most of the music I use is either GIA and OCP or through CCLI.
Holy Spirit Come Now - by Jesse Manibusan (Spirit and Song/OCP)
Refiner's Fire - by Brian Doerksen (Vineyard through CCLI)
In Christ Alone - by Keith Getty / Stuart Townend (Vineyard Through CCLI)
As It Is In Heaven - Matt Maher - (Sprit and Song/OCP)
God of Wonders - Hindalong/Byrd (found in Spirit and Song/OCP or CCLI)
Rise Up With Him - Janet Vogt (Spirit and Song/OCP)
Cry the Gospel - Tom Booth (Spirit and Song/OCP)
There are about a gazillion and three other songs that work for the Ascension of the Lord. My main suggestion is that whatever you do.... don't leave your congregation flat. Allow God to uplift the moment by programing music that's uplifting. The music I've listed here is more contemporary however it doesn't matter if you're doing a choral work, something from Ellis and Lynch or Ike Ndolo.... do something that helps your congregation experience the Holy Spirit through music that points to the Heavens. The themes this week are a combination of celebrating Christ's Ascension and the excitement of going and sharing the good news with the world.
