March 18th, Ps 137 Let My Tongue Be Silenced
When I read the reading for March 18th from 2nd Chr 36:14-16, 19-23 I am amazed at how it relates to what we are seeing in our world today. When you read it, think of how we have forgotten our Lord even in our churches. Didn't Jesus tell us that it is our own responsibility to be charitable and Godly. When we allow ourselves to fall away from God and we decide to be "Grocery Store Christians" we decide to take what we can easily agree with from the church but then conveniently omit the lessons that challenge us. I have very good personal friends who are christian and even Catholic who simply pass off teachings of the Church and Christ because they are inconvenient or don't see them as relevant. Birth control, abortion, social issues that deny personal responsibility, and other important concepts taught to us by the church are thrown out because it's easier to accept what society wants. What is God's reaction to all of this? Chronicles Chapter 36 lays out exactly what can happen to a society who's forgotten God. Psalm 137 "Let My Tongue Be Silenced" is very poignant. If ever we forget God, our tongues may indeed be "silenced". If we don't remember that it is the Lord who gives us our responsibilities as well as our rights. Self control is far more important than birth control. God gives us what we need but there is always a sacrifice or cost. Trying to "have it all" is a sure way to be lead into slavery by those who would have us believe they can give us "all" for free. Freedom is not the same as Free. One requires responsibility for actions and the acceptance of consequences while the other brings about dependency and addiction. Let not our tongues be silent. Let us rejoice in the Lord and follow his precepts.
