December 23, 2012, Fourth Sunday of Advent

Ps 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19.
Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

What makes someone turn from a life of bad decisions to a life of good decisions?  I have a former student who  made some bad decisions in her young life.  She did things that she is now very embarrassed about.  This year she started working at my school as an assistant.  The first day that she saw me, her old teacher, she immediately started to apologize and become flustered because here was someone who knew a little about her past.  What she didn't understand though, was that I not only knew about some of her bad decisions, I also knew about her challenges and the ways that life forced her to grow up and take responsibility for herself and her siblings.  When life threw these things at her, she changed and was able to keep her family together.  Now she works with kids who are going through some of the same things she went through and she's making a positive difference in the world.  I realize that God speaks to us through good times and bad times yet always, he wants us to turn to him.  Mistakes can be opportunities to make good choices.  Those choices can lead others through their bad decisions.  As the family of God it's important that we keep in perspective that God's plans are not evident to us but his will is very clear.  When you are confronted with that teen that just can't stay out of trouble remember that that person may only be one prayer away from making a change in his/her life.  Be the one to say that prayer, it may be the one they needed to get them to make a change that could really bless the world.

God Bless, Perry
