April 8th - Ps. 118 This is the day the Lord has made.
What does it mean to be saved? "Beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power,. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil for God was with him....... To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name." When Jesus was on the cross and said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." At that moment, we were forgiven. Some people wonder why in the Catholic church we celebrate communion every day. It's believed by some that we re-crucify Jesus with communion. I would submit this.... we don't re-crucify Jesus with communion. Instead we re-crucify Jesus with our constant sin. Every time we speak badly about another person we crucify Jesus. Every time we think of our own desires first, we crucify Jesus. Every time we look at another person with a sinful thought or action, we crucify Jesus. Because we are constantly crucifying him, Jesus is constantly offering himself up for us and his resurrection continues to this day. Time is not the issue. With God time is always and always is now. Jesus offered himself for us over 2,000 years ago and yet today's salvation is the same offering he made for those people standing at the foot of the cross. We now celebrate his resurrection and our salvation and it's no less significant than it was so long ago. When Jesus rose from the dead he resurrected us with him at that moment.... which is also today.... for at this very moment we do all these things. We crucify Jesus, Jesus forgives us, and we join Jesus in his resurrection. This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad!
