May 6th - Psalm 22 - I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people

Psalm 22 - I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.

I'm going to once again look at this psalm with a different set of glasses.   Psalm 22 this week made me think of marriage and family.  "I will fulfill my vows before those who fear the Lord.  "My wife and I made vows to each other the day we were married and now we fulfill those vows before the Lord and in the assembly of his people.  It speaks of generations to come and even has the line "the families of the nations shall bow down before him."   When I think of "generations" of people and "people yet to be born" I realize that this psalm is not about just the here and now but of Gods people in total forever.  My vow to my wife and my family vows are fulfilled not just now but for generations to come as my children, grandchildren and decedents carry on with the teachings taught to us by our forefathers (and mothers).  What a wonderful thing to be in the family of the Lord.  It even gives new meaning for those baptismal promises where we first joined Gods family.
